A back-to-basics book on volunteer retention. Because nothing is more
frustrating than to be continually searching for new volunteers to replace
the ones who drift away, this book is filled with easy-to-read, practical
information and inspirational quotes to help "keep those volunteers
around." Each of the twelve chapters focuses on a way to excite,
inspire, and motivate volunteers. Illustrates techniques for using humor
in the workplace, giving fast feedback, being a "coach," hiring
the best, empowering volunteers, and demanding excellence.

| All people like to be asked
for their opinions
The value-adding manager knows that everyone
is capable of suggesting better ideas. Usually just asking volunteers
for their thoughts about a problem is, in itself, both a compliment and
a morale builder. Besides, it will probably truly give us another view
of the problem facing us. One idea that I like to use is an informal
meeting with new volunteers, after about three weeks, where I ask them
for their observations about the organization and particularly the volunteer
program. It is always amazing to me the new insights that I gather from
these "new kids" about how we might improve the flow and culture
of the organization. |
