Brief Excerpt
(pp. 7-8, from Preface)
…this is a little book to help conscientious board members and
staff do a better job. All you need is a long coffee break or a short
plane flight to get through the whole thing.
Having served on 21 boards and been president of seven as well as having
worked with countless boards, I’ve learned from the best and the
worst. My hope is that you can share in the joys and avoid the potholes.
Few boards will be able to implement all of the ideas in this book.
Depending on the size, age, staffing, funding needs and mission of your
organization, some ideas will make more sense than others.
There is no particular order as to when to do things. Implement what
makes sense for you today.
