No ancient holy book mentions "volunteering"
by that name, but every religion in the world encourages charity, service to
others, and personal risk for one's beliefs. Here's a brief survey of how various
religions preach the essence of the work we do.
Despite
technological advances and modern conveniences, life remains basically unpredictable
and tenuous, as recent and occurring world events are constantly reminding us.
From the beginning, humans had to group together and aid each other simply in
order to survive. It is not surprising, therefore, that most of the world's
religions address giving, volunteering, and service in one form or another within
the context of their particular system of beliefs.
