N 2001, a unique new statewide association for people in the field of volunteer administration was founded in Minnesota. The Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA) affiliated thirteen previously-independent professional networks (and growing). The venture was the product of several years of work, involving representatives from a variety of organizations. This article summarizes the history of the collaboration, the process involved, the structure of the new organization, current status, and plans for the immediate future.
