The volunteer coordinator will facilitate all initial communication and oversee scheduling, orientation and the overall experience of the Hands On New Orleans volunteers. Responsibilities include: respond to email and phone inquiries from potential volunteers,
schedule groups of volunteers and individuals who are planning to work with Hands On New Orleans, facilitate an orientation to all volunteers, responsible for collecting and processing all volunteer waivers and documents, obtain and compile feedback when volunteers exit and explain how volunteers can continue their service once leaving New Orleans, provide general support for the programs team, participate in national recruitment efforts, support in-house programs such as community meetings, service learning opportunities and fun activities. Qualifications: deep commitment to volunteerism, highly organized with the ability to carry out multiple tasks efficiently and with little supervision, exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to successfully communicate with people from diverse backgrounds, database management experience preferred, ability to work in a high stress environment, 1+ years experience working for a non-profit organization preferred, Bachelor's degree or the equivalent, fluency in English with good written and verbal communication skills, a familiarity with the New Orleans area preferred but not required, ability to make on the spot decisions and trouble shoot. Compensation: Each AmeriCorps member is required to complete a total of 1700 hours; upon completion each member will receive a $4,725 education award; each member will receive a $1500 a month living allowance.  Duration of term: 10 months.
