AVS is a national volunteer center established to encourage, facilitate, and improve volunteerism throughout Lebanon and beyond. While primarily for those living in Lebanon, it also provides referral services to those from abroad who would like to serve as volunteers in Lebanon (languages of possible service: Arabic, English, and French). The primary activities of AVS are its Learning to CARE Program to develop school service programs, Global Youth Service Days to promote youth development of their own service projects, and training and consulting services to establish and improve local volunteer centers and NGO volunteer programs. The Director of AVS is the Regional Representative to the Arab Nations 2009-2012 for the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE). And AVS is the coordinator of the Arab World Volunteer Initiative 2009-2011 to support volunteering throughout the region.
